We’ve seen two coyotes hunting in the field south of the house quite a bit lately. This morning they were hunting along the west row of hedge trees, where many pack rats live among the tree roots. Then they got interested in the area around the woodpile, where Buster has also been after something – bunnies, snakes, who knows? These photos are in the order I took them.

This is the coolest shot I took. It looks like he's jumping off the woodpile, but he's actually behind it.

Yeow! Those are the greatest! That is one healthy, beautiful coyote. The one of him (I guess, him) jumping is worthy of National Geographic!
How extremely cool. Did Buster see them, and if so, what did he do? I agree — the jumping coyote pic is excellent! Thanks for posting the series, too; it’s so interesting to see what they were doing while they were there.
cooooooooooooooooooooooooool.
much cooler than the domesticated suburban deer that stand in my driveway
You are getting really good with that camera. What amazing photos. The one of the coyote leaping is fantastic. I also like the picture below it where you caught the coyote in mid-stride, looking at you. Wish I could read his mind right about then. Thanks for sharing them!
coyotes are lounging under our mulberry tree. They actualy lay around, visit, saunter to the fallen berries for afternoon snack…… Makes Gus nuts. he barks from the deck and the coyotes look toward him in a very lazy manner.
